MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF CAMELFORD ASSOCIATION OF RESIDENTS held on 14 June 2007

  1. Welcome – given by Eddie McCormick, Vice Chairman.  He asked for another item to be added to the agenda –
    1. Election of new Chairman – Mel Baber said she was now aware that according to CAR’s constitution she could continue, but did not feel she could give her best as she had been elected to council.  John Hough said he would accept nomination, but that he would be very short of time and would need support.  He said he would take it for a year.  Alan Pollard said he would accept nomination next year.  John Hough proposed by E McCormick, seconded by Mel Baber, all in favour.
  2. Apologies received from Ada McCormick.
  3. Minutes of 19 April 2007 – Eddie McCormick read through the minutes and there were no objections to their adoption.
  4. Chairman’s Report – Mel’s final report carried forward to the next meeting.
    1. Thank you letter received from Inspector Innes for the letter sent about Sam Smith.  It was suggested that Sam Smith be asked to attend a future meeting to discuss her work, now she has been in post some months.
  5. Treasurer’s Report – circulated.  £92.28 in the bank.    Fireworks – Mel Baber has written to the schools to sort out a project for the fireworks procession.
  6. Secretary’s Report –
    1. Draft letter to Chamber of Commerce read out.  Proposal to send it by Eddie McCormick, seconded Mark Stockwood, all in favour.
    2. Unitary authority – report from NORA is available.  Eddie McCormick said that it seemed that about 80% were against the bid and the time period for consultation had been extended.  John Hough said we had no right to give our view for or against the bid, but Mark Stockwood suggested that CAR write to say that there had been insufficient consultation.  John Hough said we need proper consultation by poll.  Sec to write.
  7. Dental services in North Cornwall – it is now in the public domain that the company selected to provide NHS dental services in North Cornwall has bought the Craig Group surgeries in Camelford and Bude.  Sec to write to the PCT asking if patients have to re-register as NHS patients, and has the new company bought/inherited the Craig list of patients.
  8. Footway and Street Lights, Delavue Terrace to Valley Truckle – Bob Ireland said there had been a meeting at NCDC to discuss the possibility of buying land from Valley Truckle into Longfield Drive in order to create a new footway.   c/f
  9. Pedestrian Scheme – Eddie McCormick read letter to Oskar van Winden to thank him for helping with the problem of the high pavement outside the Post Office.
  10. CAR Newsletter number 9 – John and Barbara Hough will drop in Trevia and will need about 40 copies.  Eddie McCormick doing flier for Bubbles and Berries.
  11. New entrances/exists on Roughtor Road – letter received from the Planning Department that retrospective planning permission will have to be applied for.
  12. Loss of assets register.  Discussed at newly formed Finance Committee meeting. c/f
  13. Love Parks Week – Mel Baber there on 23 June from late morning, face painting.  In future it is hoped that other bodies within the town will be given more notice of such events.
  14. Any other business –
    1. BBC report that funding has been granted for a new medical centre in Camelford.  It is believed that it will be on the school site in Dark Lane.
    2. CAR representative on Town Forum – Alan Pollard.
    3. Frank Samuel said how dangerous the parking was parallel to the A39 between the Darlington and the Library.  Sec to write to town council.
    4. John Hough said he had seen Terry putting a ticket on a car parked outside the Co-op.
    5. Frank Samuel said that a seat in Tregoodwell was badly out of its setting and was council going to repair the site.
    6. Dave Pengelly said that following grass cutting the grass is blown into the gutter and left.  This is making unsightly and dangerous mess at Valley Truckle, on the corner of Clease Road and Dark Lane, outside the Ambulance Station, Mill Lane and between Clease car park and the A39.  Sec to write to council.
    7. John Hough talked about the Inns Park development.  He said he had written to Camelford Town Council, NCDC and South West Water because he had had raw sewage pumping into the back garden last summer.  Because SWW had a system failure they had not known that the pump had stopped.  A reply to his letter to Malcolm Price, NCDC Planning Department, had said that it was not Planning’s responsibility but was up to SWW to say there was a problem.  SWW at Exeter apparently still did not have drawings for earlier developments.  John Hough has written again asking why water ratepayers should pay for the deficiencies of the Planning Department.  Bob Ireland said we should be telling NCDC Planning Department that planning permission should be contingent upon the sewage works.  Bob Ireland said we should also get the District Councillor involved.  Sec to write.
    8. Dave Pengelly made the meeting aware of work which had been done in the past on the trees in Enfield Park and further more recent work.
    9. Alan Pollard said that he had spoken to Ron Hart years ago about a seat which had been placed by her friends in memory of a girl who had been killed.  The word friend on the inscription had been spelled ‘freind’.  He had been assured that it would be sorted out, but it was still like it.  Alan felt it made Camelford look stupid and asked that it be changed.  Sec to write.
  15. Date of next meeting – provisionally agreed as 13th Sept 2007.
