MINUTES OF THE
MEETING OF CAMELFORD ASSOCIATION OF RESIDENTS
held on 13 September 2007
-
All those present
were welcomed by John Hough, Chairman, and introduced themselves to new
members.
-
Apologies received
from Roger Hart and Huw Huntley.
-
Acceptance of the
minutes of 14 June proposed by Mark Stockwood, seconded by E McCormick, none
against.
-
Chairman’s Report -
John Hough reported that he had received three notes of thanks for the
Bubbles and Berries event in July. The event made £520.60. Many thanks to
all concerned.
-
Treasurer’s Report -
Mark Stockwood said that the £520.60 had been (is
to be) paid to Forum, which will be done after the Greek Night on 22
September. With regard to the CAR account,
there will be £96.78 in the bank, enough to keep CAR ticking over.
-
Secretary’s Report –
nothing to report.
-
Unitary Authority –
this is apparently being challenged in the High Court. Janey Comber, our
County Councillor, is hoping that Camelford could become a pilot council.
Mel Baber felt more information was needed and Mark Stockwood said that if
this does go through there will be more work put onto the parish council and
if they achieve Quality Status they will get funding. John Hough said that
as well as finding out what is happening CAR must always consider the views
of the residents.
-
Dental Services in
North Cornwall – report from Adrian Tyas read to the meeting :
‘I
have spoken to the Managers of Oasis Dental Care and currently because of
recruitment of new dentists there is no capacity for new patients to be seen in
Camelford under the NHS. Patients are being given the option for the time being
of having NHS treatment in Bude and some will eventually be able to move to
Camelford for their treatment but with a different dentist.
In Bude there were 3
dentists one of whom left a few months ago and a third dentist to replace her is
starting on Monday 10th September. Oasis are also still trying to
recruit a fourth dentist to work in Bude.
The practice are taking
on new patients and making appointments for them in Bude. They are aware of the
demand for more NHS treatments to be provided in Camelford but this will not be
possible during the next 2 months. The position will be able to be reassessed
in 2 months time.
The contract with the PCT
requires 6,000 Units of Dental activity per year in Camelford. This should mean
that around 2,000 patients should be able to receive NHS treatment each year in
Camelford. The Oasis Dental Care Manager for the South West is now aware of your
concerns and will take appropriate action as soon as she can.’
(A copy of the email is shown in Issue 11 of the CAR Newsletter – also available
on the CAR website).
-
Use of Primary School
Site – letter received from Camelford Town Council asking for help to
ascertain how the people of Camelford wanted the Primary School Site used,
in spite of the comment made to Forum by Mr M Williams who stated that
nobody would have a say. [This sentence originally and
incorrectly stated that Mr Williams had written to the Forum - we are
happy to correct that error] Ada McCormick said she would not like this site to
go for a supermarket and that residents needed to have a view. Bob Ireland
said that it had been said that the building could be used as a community
centre, but the building needs a lot of work. John Hough said that we have
to get the views of the people of Camelford. To that end a flyer will go in
the CAR newsletter for completion and return to the Town Clerk. This would
also go on the CAR website, camres.org.uk. Bob Ireland said that the site
is owned by Cornwall County Council, but planning department is at North
Cornwall District Council.
-
Footway and Street
Lights, Delavue Terrace to Valley Truckle – feasibility study to be financed
from Janey Comber’s budget. A footway would be essential if an HGV
diversion were to be put in place.
-
Car Newsletter number
11 – to go out straight away with 45 copies for Trevia. Mel Baber to
explore the cost of a duplex printer and possibly approach Trago for
purchase and/or funding.
-
New entrances/exits
on Roughtor Road – outline planning permission is being sought for the land
inside the new openings in Roughtor Road.
-
Clean Cornwall week –
unfortunately the literature was received too late for CAR to organise
anything.
-
Greek Night in aid of
Fireworks – tickets going well.
-
Any other business –
-
Medical Centre –
it is thought that planning permission has not yet been received from
NCDC. Write to PCT.
-
Through School
entrance – sec asked to register concern about safety aspects of
increased traffic in Dark Lane and Mill Lane. Dave Pengelly to give CCC
address to Clare.
-
Adrian Tyas, PCT,
Dental Services – should he be invited to the next meeting? CAR will
monitor how this develops and possibly invite him to our meeting. His
report, with names edited out, to be sent to Camelford Town Council and
Camelford Forum.
-
Brian Lush said
there was consternation because Sir James Smith’s Community School is
refusing to issue the GCSE results on the grounds of “parent
confidentiality”. Can they stop (prevent)
this information going out – surely the league tables have to be
published. Write to SJS School.
-
Date of next meeting
28 January 2008.
